Aug 26, 2021

[New Stand Tokyo × Magazine House "Hanako" Presents] "NEW BOSAI STANDARD" - A Fair to Rethink Disaster Preparedness, from Essential Stockpiles to Menstrual Items

New Stand Tokyo, a "future general store," has partnered with "Hanako," an intellectual lifestyle magazine that caters to working women's desire to "know more," to host "NEW BOSAI STANDARD," a fair rethinking disaster preparedness. The event will take place at New Stand Tokyo (Roppongi, Tokyo) from September 1st (Wednesday) to September 30th (Thursday), coinciding with Disaster Prevention Day on September 1st (Wednesday).

Japan has long been known as a country prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, and floods. However, with the new threat of the novel coronavirus raging, we believe it's crucial to be mindful of disaster preparedness suited to various situations.
Amidst this, disaster preparedness items and information are updated daily, becoming more personalized, and the options are increasing. As New Stand Tokyo, with its theme of "the standard of the future," we wanted to propose a new approach to disaster preparedness that is necessary now and in the future.

Lifestyle magazine "Hanako," which has featured disaster preparedness several times in the past, will dedicate its August 28, 2021 issue to the theme of "New Standard Disaster Preparedness." With a shared vision of proposing a "new standard for disaster preparedness," both parties collaborated to make a broader proposal to society.
Maximizing the strengths and expertise of both, we will hold a fair introducing disaster preparedness goods necessary for the present and future.

◆What is "NEW BOSAI STANDARD," a Disaster Preparedness Fair for Women?
The women's magazine "Hanako," published by Magazine House Co., Ltd., has been planning disaster preparedness features twice a year since 2020. The latest issue, No. 1200 (released on August 28, 2021), is titled "First Disaster Preparedness for Women Living in the City: The New Standard in the COVID-19 Era." It introduces goods, basic concepts, and ideas on themes such as "What to prepare for longer time at home?", "Tips for creating a safe room," and "Order supplies for complete readiness."
"NEW BOSAI STANDARD" will display and sell some of the products featured in previous "Hanako" disaster preparedness issues. (The latest issue and back issues will also be available.)

Furthermore, in addition to product display and sales, the store will also feature panel exhibits utilizing magazine pages related to disaster preparedness.
We will also introduce disaster preparedness products from the items regularly handled at New Stand Tokyo. Why not consider future disaster preparedness while experiencing the disaster preparedness items and information provided by New Stand Tokyo × Hanako?

◆About the collaboration with "Hanako"
We decided to collaborate this time because we resonated with each other's views on "disaster preparedness." However, we are confident that there is valuable information that can be disseminated by New Stand Tokyo and "Hanako," an intellectual lifestyle magazine that caters to working women's desire to "know more," not only on "disaster preparedness" but also on "Femtech (Note 1)," which is one of our shop's categories, and "SDGs."
New Stand Tokyo, which has direct contact with customers and engages in in-depth communication, and "Hanako," which proposes and widely disseminates women's lifestyles. We aim to undertake initiatives that consider "the next generation of living" by closely supporting each individual, something only these two companies can achieve.

※1) Femtech is a coined word combining "Female" and "Technology." It generally refers to devices, apps, and products that use technology to address women's unique health issues such as menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause.

◆Comments from "Hanako"
Hanako has regularly addressed "disaster preparedness." We have introduced "disaster preparedness goods" that you'll be happy to have on a daily basis and "disaster preparedness actions" that are fun and practical, based on the theme of "daily personal disaster preparedness." We are excited to collaborate with "New Stand Tokyo," a "future general store." We want this to be a fair where you can discover and encounter items that make you think, "I've always wanted something like this!" Please come and visit.

◆Product Lineup (Partial)

[Hanako Featured] "Sonae Ume" (Prepared Plums) - Deliciously prepared with the hope they won't be used: 2,160 yen (tax included)
"Inside are pickled plums. We hope that when the expiration date expires in three years, we can open them like a time capsule, one by one, and enjoy them, thinking nothing happened. They are like a charm, praying for peace." These individually wrapped pickled plums are easy to carry and useful for replenishing salt and maintaining health. "Sugita Ume" made by Shoko Norimatsu was carefully selected from 300 types of pickled plums. Contains 4 prepared plums and comes with a drawstring pouch. Recommended by lifestyle coordinator "Omomuroni."

[Hanako Featured] "CARRY THE SUN Small Warm Light" 2,860 yen (tax included)
Lanterns should be usable on a daily basis. Losing light in a power outage is more inconvenient and unsettling than you might imagine. This solar-powered LED lantern is waterproof and dustproof, so it's fine to leave it outdoors during the day. It folds compactly and has a simple design that can be used as ambient lighting for everyday use.

[Hanako Featured] "Fukushima Constant Food Series" - Carefully selected local ingredients and preserved foods from Fukushima
Born from the "Fukushima Mirai Challenge Project" which supports business matching in Fukushima Prefecture. Arranges Fukushima's rich food culture, such as local specialties like Kawamata Shamo chicken and traditional foods like shimi-mochi, into constant foods. Easy to stock at home or use as portable food, these food products can bring out the deliciousness of restaurant-quality dishes on their own.

[Hanako Featured] Guardian Whistle "effe candy" 4,180 yen
A whistle accessory created at the request of disaster prevention officials in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, a major spectacle production area. It uses cellulose acetate, the material for spectacle frames. To communicate one's location in an emergency, it is designed to emit high-pitched sounds that are easily heard by the human ear. Prepare for emergencies with accessories you can use daily.
*The effe series "alphabet" is featured in Hanako.

Delicious canned bread "Pan da Kan" that can be eaten regularly 540 yen (tax included)
Long-lasting canned bread. Halal-certified disaster food that can be enjoyed by a wider range of people. To commemorate New Stand Tokyo's 1st anniversary, an original package illustrated by "Moshimoshi Shimo" is also available! We hope that the cute illustrations will make people more interested in disaster food and bring some comfort in times of emergency.
*New Stand Tokyo will carry three types (planned): caramel, strawberry, and chocolate chip (original package).

Moshimoshi Shimo (@moshimoshishimo_illust)
Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1993. Graduated from Tokyo Polytechnic University, Faculty of Arts. Aims for cute and relaxed illustrations that incorporate her own thoughts. Has appeared at caricature events at commercial facilities and has designed glasses/packaging/illustrations for social media/caricatures for companies. Also exhibiting at Taiwan POPUP.

"Rael Refreshing Wipes" that can be flushed down the toilet 880 yen (tax included)
Refreshing wipes made with plant-derived ingredients for a clean feeling. These wipes can be used on delicate skin. Because they are for intimate areas, they are made with carefully selected ingredients. Use them for a quick wipe when you can't take a bath, when your skin gets irritated in an unfamiliar environment, or during your period when you feel stuffy.

"Paper Torch" that lights up by simply rolling it up 11,000 yen (tax included)
A paper flashlight. The brightness can be adjusted by how tightly the paper is rolled; rolling it loosely makes it dimmer, and rolling it tightly makes it brighter. Additionally, reversing the paper's front and back to roll it allows light to pass through, creating a warm impression, thus enabling two different light color changes to be enjoyed. It can be used as a reading light or an emergency flashlight. Simply roll it up to illuminate your surroundings.

◆Special Instagram Live
During the period, New Stand Tokyo and Hanako will hold an Instagram Live. We will share various disaster preparedness information from the perspectives of both companies. Details such as the broadcast time will be announced on both websites and Instagram as soon as they are decided (planned).

Why not take this fair as an opportunity to review your own disaster preparedness supplies, and those of the people around you?
