Call for applications for the "fermata Absorbent Underwear Donation Fundraising Campaign" Medical Professional Support Project

Jan 13, 2021

As the spread of the novel coronavirus becomes even more severe, fermata will launch the "fermata Absorbent Underwear Donation Support Fund" as part of a support project for medical professionals working devotedly on the front lines, with public applications accepted from Wednesday, January 13 to Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
At the same time, we are also recruiting medical institutions that wish to receive absorbent underwear.

  • What is absorbent underwear?

These are underwear that you can wear "as is" during your period. The crotch area features highly absorbent fabric, with additional layers to enhance absorbency, significantly reducing the need to go to the restroom.

  • Support for healthcare workers through "Femtech"

It has been almost a year since the novel coronavirus outbreak, but the spread of infection is still accelerating, and a second state of emergency was declared on January 7 for the one metropolis and three prefectures in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Under these circumstances, medical professionals have been working long hours, sacrificing meals and sleep, and continue to face severe physical and mental challenges. For those who menstruate, we hear from various sources that menstruation causes significant stress in situations where they cannot take adequate breaks. Especially when wearing protective clothing, there are significant restrictions on using the restroom, and the physical burden, such as stuffiness and restricted movement, becomes even greater. We planned this support project with the hope that using absorbent underwear can alleviate some of the psychological and physical stress and anxiety experienced during menstruation by medical professionals who are dedicated to working in such challenging conditions.

Since its establishment in October 2019, fermata has built connections with femtech companies both domestically and internationally, as well as companies interested in femtech. This project originated from a call within our community, which brings together femtech and femcare-related companies, and was made possible by the support of many companies.

In this project, a total of six brands with close ties to fermata will provide absorbent underwear. Furthermore, prior to the general recruitment, support was solicited within the femtech community, and funding for 1,000 pairs has already been collected. As the activity progressed, we received many requests from individuals who wished to provide support rather than just companies, leading to this public call to deliver absorbent underwear to even more medical professionals.
