More than a trend: Creating an environment where we can choose

We have had more opportunities to hear the word "Femtech" over the last few years. New products, apps, services, and events. In Japan, too, the terms "Femtech" and "Femcare" are gradually becoming a part of our daily lives.

However, I do not see Femtech merely as a trend or a product category. It is a quieter, more fundamental movement.

Knowing your own body. Knowing your options. And being able to decide for yourself.

Isn't this "sense of agency" something that has long been lacking in women's health?

1 What is Femtech, anyway?

Femtech is a collective term for technology and services that support women's health challenges.

It’s not just about menstruation and pregnancy. It includes diseases with high prevalence in women, such as osteoporosis and dementia, as well as areas where progression differs between genders, such as menopause and cancer.

It is used as a term to denote this "broader map of health."

In a wider concept, it is also called "Women’s Health Tech."

The difference between Femtech and Femcare

Femtech is a broad concept that addresses women's health issues, including technology, data, and service design. Femcare, on the other hand, is a term often used to refer to everyday self-care products and habits.

Rather than viewing one as superior or inferior to the other, I see both as gateways to "knowing your body and making it easier to choose."

However, what I instill in the word Femtech is not merely an industrial category.

Femtech is not about "imposing the right answer," but "creating a state where you can choose."
