Smart Pill Reminder "Popit Sense" Launches in Japan for the First Time, Pre-orders Now Open

Pre-orders will be accepted from Thursday, September 17, 2020, to Saturday, October 17, 2020.

■ The Need to Reduce Missed Doses

In recent years, as women have become more active in society, a wider range of options have become available, and there has been a growing trend in the use of low-dose pills and supplements to address women's health issues. Furthermore, from a societal perspective, the types and number of days of prescription drugs taken by adults have increased (※1).

On the other hand, for prescription drugs, it is a fact that more than half of people have leftover medicine, and over 60% of the reasons for this are forgotten doses (※2). The problem of leftover medicine is a significant issue not only because it prevents proper pharmacotherapy but also from the perspective of waste disposal and healthcare cost reduction (※3).

fermata strongly recognizes the need to reduce missed medication doses to maximize the effectiveness of medication and pills through correct knowledge and use, thereby improving daily life. We have therefore partnered with Popit, a company that has achieved over 80% reduction in leftover medication in Europe and is rapidly expanding its sales. We have successfully launched "Popit Sense," a smart pill reminder, in Japan for the first time.

■ What is "Popit Sense," a Smart Pill Reminder?

"Popit Sense" is a product from Finland developed by Popit in collaboration with healthcare professionals. By simply attaching it to a sheet of medication taken in conjunction with the dedicated smartphone app "Popit Smart Pill Reminder," it detects whether the medication has been removed using sound and vibration, and notifies the user if a dose is missed. It is effective in preventing missed doses of not only pills and supplements but also all types of medication, making it suitable for all genders and ages. It can also be used in a wide range of applications, from personal use to medical and nursing care settings.
