About fermata
Individual choices for our bodies
will create the society of the future.
In Japan, changes in women's bodies and minds are still rarely discussed,
whether in schools, workplaces, families, or society at large.
Menstruation, pregnancy/fertility treatment, postpartum, menopause—
these changes and concerns, which women experience multiple times throughout their lives,
have been treated as something to "endure and get through,"
or "something that can only be waited out."
fermata was established to address these "silent difficulties" that are hard to voice,
and to create a society where each individual can make choices about their own body more freely.
At the same time, it is also about creating a society where each individual can become the best expert on their own body.
Technology makes vague discomfort "visible"
At fermata, we value the power of technology.
By using technology,
the vague discomforts in women's health that have been overlooked as
"a general malaise,"
"maybe it's just my imagination," or
"I can't quite put it into words,"
can now be
visualized, articulated, understood as issues,
and shared with others.
Apps, devices, records, and data are not meant to fuel anxiety.
They are "aids" for understanding one's own body, and a common language for dialogue with medical professionals, experts, and those around us.
Why we operate this e-commerce site
Since its establishment in 2019,
fermata has continuously introduced advanced products and ideas from around the world,
as well as fostering dialogue and movements,
even before the term "Femtech" and its market were widely known in Japan.
Topics related to sex and the body are often difficult to discuss in many parts of the world,
regardless of cultural or religious differences.
As a result, products and information that could be helpful often fail to reach those who need them.
Furthermore, in Japan,
even products highly regarded worldwide
may not be readily accepted due to differences in pharmaceutical regulations and cultural backgrounds.
fermata's goal is not merely to introduce and sell
overseas Femtech and Femcare products.
We are committed to carefully considering Japan's systems, culture, and daily sensibilities,
and delivering products as "choices that are truly useful in daily life in Japan today."
Market creation and fermata's position
Markets are not born naturally.
Nor do they expand overnight.
That is why we prioritize not just selling products,
but creating a space where understanding and empathy can grow.
This means giving words to feelings of discomfort,
connecting individual experiences, and
shaping them into a form that can be shared.
We believe that "giving words and creating connections" for issues in Women's Health
is key to gradually advancing social systems.
Social Implementation Initiatives
fermata does not limit itself to e-commerce operations.
In collaboration with schools, local governments, medical institutions, and companies,
we have also undertaken social implementation projects to create mechanisms that are used in actual daily life.
One example is the "Health Room BOX" project, which originated in school health rooms.
This initiative aims to help adolescents understand changes in their bodies and minds not as "abnormal,"
but as "something to know about" and "something to address,"
and to connect them with necessary information and options.
It's not just about having options,
but about them being used and taking root.
That is fermata's vision for social implementation.
