Dutch fertility femtech, the FertiLily Conception Cup, begins domestic sales as a medical device.
We are pleased to announce that on June 25, 2021, we obtained exclusive domestic distribution rights in Japan for the "Fertilily Conception Cup," a fertility femtech product from the Netherlands. This product is intended for those who wish to conceive and will be sold as a medical device through the femtech-specialized online shop "fermata store" ( https://hellofermata.com/ ) and the physical store "New Stand Tokyo" (Nogizaka, Tokyo) *1.
*1…Sales at the physical store will begin on July 1.

■Current state of fertility treatment in Japan
Many people in Japan suffer from infertility. It is reported that approximately one out of three couples has worried about infertility, and one out of 5.5 couples has received (or is currently receiving) fertility treatment *2. In addition to the burden associated with hospital visits for treatment, there are various other small and large concerns related to fertility treatment, such as the difficulty of going to the restroom or showering immediately after intercourse to prevent sperm leakage.
In light of this situation, fermata has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement in Japan with Rosesta Medical BV from the Netherlands to offer a new option for those wishing to conceive. As a result, the "Fertilily Conception Cup," developed by the company, will be launched in Japan as a medical device.

■About the "Fertilily Conception Cup"

The "Fertilily Conception Cup" is a medical device developed by Rosesta Medical BV in the Netherlands, designed to retain semen at the cervix (the entrance to the uterus). Founder Robert Stahl, drawing on his own experience of trying various methods to have children with his partner, developed this product with doctors for others facing similar challenges. By wearing this product after intercourse, women can reduce sperm leakage and ensure sufficient time for sperm to enter the cervical mucus. Since its launch in the Netherlands in 2019, the market has expanded primarily in Europe and North America, including Germany and the UK, with cumulative sales of approximately 100,000 units.
Made of soft, flexible medical-grade silicone, it is characterized by being less burdensome physically and mentally to wear, and can be reused for up to six months. It can also be worn while using the toilet or showering. It can be widely used by those who are trying to conceive despite busy schedules, those who have just started hoping for pregnancy, and those who want to explore new methods while continuing treatment.

■Future Vision
Since its establishment, fermata has focused not only on the safety, function, and design of femtech brands and products, but also on the stories behind their development and the creators' aspirations, delivering carefully selected items. Until now, we have focused on absorbent underwear, proposing a shift in perception regarding period taboos. Moving forward, we will expand our categories to include fertility treatment, sexual wellness, and menopause, and strive to provide products, spaces, and information that enable new discoveries through products and the communication they generate.
